Interested in working at The Petal Patch? Details below!
The Petal Patch flower farm is looking for an employee who can be the owner’s right hand, go-to person. Ideally, this person will have had previous experience on a flower farm or market farm. The position is part time from April through the end of November. Hours and start times change with the season and can be discussed more thoroughly with interested parties. For example, in April the hours might be 10am-2pm four days a week while in high summer the hours are more like 7am-12pm five days a week. The job pays $17/hour.
Duties will be varied as the Petal Patch is a small farm where we all do a bit of everything to keep things going. Petal Patch is not certified organic but operates as much as possible as if it were. It’s comprised of roughly 30 permanent beds for annuals and is a no-till farm. There is a rose garden, peony field, 1 tunnel and an assortment of shrubs and trees. You would be helping with planting, harvesting, weeding, bed flipping, spraying and general maintenance.
The Petal Patch is heading into its 7th season and runs well but there is always room for improvement. One of those areas is succession planting. Scheduling and executing a better plan is top of my list for this coming season.
In addition to the on-farm work, one Saturday a month working the Leesburg Saturday Market is required.
I’m looking for someone who can work independently, lift at least 50lbs, understands that farming can be hard dirty, monotonous work and is done in all weather conditions. Moreover, I am looking for someone who is interested in and enjoys flowers and farming!
